The Blandy’s are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811. This is a strictly limited release of single-harvest Madeira produced in 1980 from the exceptionally rare variety, Terrantez, and bottled in 2016 with 83g/L residual sugar having matured for 36 years in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system. Classified as ‘medium rich’ in style, it offers up notes of citrus zest, dried fruits, woodsmoke and spices. This is a marvellous wine of immense complexity and an incredibly long finish, to be enjoyed alongside mature cheeses such as Mimolette.
