Château Belgrave is a Grand Cru Classé property in the Haut-Médoc that has, since 1979, been part of the Dourthe portfolio of estates. Most similar in style to Saint-Julien it is typically hallmarked by its aromatic complexity and rich fruit character, combined with wonderful elegance and finesse. The 2017 is a lovely release composed of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot.
The 2017 Belgrave offers crisp blackberry and tobacco scents on the nose, a touch of gravel developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, masculine and rather austere towards the finish where I would have liked more flesh. A second showing towards the end of my tasting did indicate a wine developing more fruité towards the finish and my score reflects anticipated amelioration during its barrel maturation. - Neil Martin - The 2017 Belgrave comes across as wild and gamy. Iron, graphite, incense, tobacco and inky dark fruit give the 2017 a distinctly feral personality. That impression is further enhanced by big, rustic tannins. I liked this a bit more from barrel.
