Alteni di Brassica Gaja 2013

HED70213 75cl 13.5%
Gaja Alteni di Brassica 2013 is a mature-vintage, barrel-fermented white wine produced from Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Matured for eight months in tight-grained French oak barrels, this structured yet elegant Sauvignon Blanc combines all the vibrant fruit character one would expect from the grape variety with the finesse and seductiveness one would expect from this prestigious estate. Layers of sweet citrus, papaya and pineapple are complemented by fresh floral notes of jasmine and a light herbaceousness. "The 2013 Alteni di Brassica is bright, energetic and vibrant, with lovely energy and overall tension. Still reticent and not fully expressive, the 2013 needs time to fully open up. Mint, green pear and white flowers add nuance on the chiselled, precise finish. This is a lovely showing from the Alteni. North-facing vineyards in Barbaresco and Serralunga provide the fruit." Gaja

The Gaja Winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. One of Italy’s most renowned and dynamic wineries, Gaja first established its world-class reputation with the powerful reds it produced in the region of Piemonte in Northwestern Italy.

A key figure was Angelo Gaja, who took over the running of the estate in 1970 and sought to showcase the best that the Nebbiolo grape could produce with stellar Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate produces unique white wines too, such as the marvellous single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica.

Gaja is also a leading name in Tuscany, having diversified into the production of Brunello and Super Tuscan wines. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994 from which they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille. In 1996, Angelo Gaja purchased the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri.
