Mackmyra

Sweden's First Ever Distillery

When it was established in 1999, Mackmyra (pronounced ‘mack-MEERA’) was the first ever licensed whisky distillery in Sweden. The company’s two distillery sites (a second was added in 2011) are located in the district of Valbo, about two hours north of Stockholm – making it one of the most northerly whisky distilleries in the world.

Mackmyra’s northerly location provides long summer daylight hours, which produce barley with a sweetness that has become one of its signature characteristics. As well as using American ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks for maturation, Mackmyra also incorporates harder Swedish oak, which also lends a trademark caramelised spice note to its malts.

Having evolved at a rapid pace since its foundation, Mackmyra now offers a wide range of experimental finishes and limited-edition bottlings in addition to its core range. All Mackmyra malts are bottled without additives.
