Oregon
A key production area for wine in the US, Oregon is bordered by Washington to its north and California to its south and has built a reputation for stellar Burgundian-style Pinot Noirs. These elegant red wines offer up a range of notes from red cherry and raspberry to black plum and cherry and are structured by refreshing levels of acidity, high alcohol and excellent tannic structure. Stand-out names of Nicolas Jay, Maggie Harrison’s Lillian, Kelly Fox Wines and Sine Qua Non to name but a few. In addition to Pinot Noir (which accounts for around 57% of plantings), a few other key grape varieties to look out for include Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
