Paso Robles
Situated within San Luis Obispo County, the large AVA of Paso Robles contains a wide variety of vineyard sites and microclimates, from mountains, to rolling hills and valley floors, for the most part with predominantly calcareous soils. To the west, the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean provides a moderating effect on the vineyards. Black grape varieties dominate in this AVA, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel in addition to a number of Rhône varieties.
