Pierrick Bouley Clos des Chênes 2021 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Clos des Chênes in the Volnay appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Having run his family domaine since 2014, Pierrick Bouley has emerged as one of the leading vignerons in Volnay, producing terroir-driven wines with minimal intervention and minimal added sulphur. His 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is matured in 20% new oak. Expect structured dark berry fruit exotic spices and a sappy finish.
The 2021 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a more backward nose compared to the Champans, without the same panache of amplitude. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, not quite as chiselled as the Champans, but with plenty of substance on the sinewy, more Pommard-like finish. Very fine. - Neil Martin
