Scarecrow was first released in 2003 and is an ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon from old dry-farmed vines on the J. J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford, most of which was planted in 1945. The 2011 vintage in Napa was challenging for many but winemaker, Celia Welch, has produced a stunning, Bordeaux-esque wine. On the nose it is intensely perfumed with notes of dark cherry, cassis, vanilla, jasmine and crushed rose petals. The palate is rich, silky and broad, with superb complexity and grace. A brilliant example of how vineyard pedigree and intelligent winemaking can still produce thrilling wines.
