Considered by many to be the pinnacle of fine wine, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s holdings in Grand Cru Richebourg consist of two parcels, Les Véroilles and Les Richebourgs. These contrasting plots contribute their unique character to produce a wine with trademark power and concentration, but incredible finesse and freshness. The 1999 vintage in Burgundy was exceptional, yielding wines of remarkable depth and complexity. The 99 Richebourg deep ruby hue, the nose reveals a complex bouquet of black cherries, spice, and earthy undertones. On the palate, it is robust and muscular, with medium to full body and stunning length
The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru is a wonderful wine, even if this is not the best bottle that I have encountered. That is principally because the nose does not quite convey the crystalline purity of the previous example poured in Hong Kong. Although, the vibrant dark berry fruit and crushed stone aromas remains in situ. The palate has exquisite balance and poise, a wine of immense grandeur yet with elegance and energy in spades towards the finish. Tasted at the Amos Bursary charity dinner at 67 Pall Mall.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti

Words do not do justice to this legendary Burgundian producer. Situated in the commune of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine de la Romanée Conti (DRC) is considered by many to be the finest producer in the world. Co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy families, DRC produces only Grand Cru wines - some of the most sought after and ageworthy in Burgundy - from key grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These include six reds: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-St-Vivant, Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux, and one white wine, Le Montrachet.

Run by co-directors Aubert de Villaine and Henri-Frédéric Roch for many years, the domaine is now entering a new chapter under new leadership. The domaine consists of 25 hectares of meticulously tended vineyards and includes some of the greatest terroirs in Burgundy.
