The origins of Château Rauzan-Ségla can be traced back to the late 17th century when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan established the vineyard. Today, Château Rauzan-Ségla is under the ownership of the Chanel group, known for its commitment to luxury and craftsmanship. With their meticulous attention to detail and respect for tradition, Chanel has elevated the estate to even greater heights, reaffirming its position among the top producers in Bordeaux. The 2020 vintage of its Grand Vin is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, with the balance made up of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It is undoubtedly a wine of great potential, but its youthful nature suggests that it is still in its formative stages of development.
The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is more open on the nose than when I tasted it from barrel. Quite intense with blackberry, crushed violet, oyster shell and just a touch of pencil box. It actually pulls back a little with aeration, almost as if it is (to quote The Specials) showing too much, too young. The palate is pixelated on the entry, perfectly proportioned with seamlessly integrated oak, a silver bead of acidity. Not ostentatious in any way, but streamlined and holding something back on the finish, which bodes well for the future. This is deeply impressive. - Neil Martin - The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is very perfumed and delineated on the nose, with vivacious black fruit, cassis and violet blossoming in the glass. The oak is very well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite rounded and plush, but there is backbone and structure here. Very persistent on the finish, this is a Rauzan-Ségla for the ages. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Chateau Rauzan Ségla

Setting the bar for quality winemaking in Margaux, the vineyards of Château Rauzan-Ségla are planted to 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and are used to produce both the prestigious first wine and the second wine, known as Ségla.

These are wonderfully elegant, vibrant reds that see 60-70% new oak. Considered by many to be one of the greatest properties in Margaux, Rauzan-Ségla is now firmly established as one of Bordeaux`s ‘Super Seconds’.
