Situated in Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Etienne Sauzet comprises 15 hectares of estate vineyards spread across Puligny-Montrachet, Cormot-le-Grand, and Chassagne-Montrachet, supplemented by small amounts of externally sourced fruit. The vineyards have followed organic farming practices since 2006, transitioning to biodynamic methods in 2010, with certification obtained in 2013. This particular release is sourced from their 0.99-hectare plot in the Premier Cru ‘La Garenne’. The wine offers a well-balanced profile, featuring notes of tangy marmalade and subtle spices. The finish is expressive, reflecting the terroir`s unique qualities.
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has distant scents of sea spray and estuarine notes on the nose, neatly combined with the green apples. The palate is well-balanced, with the 15% new oak judiciously used to lend a little more creaminess in texture towards the lightly spiced finish. It just needs more nerve and mineralité overall.
