Prima Pietra Castiglion del Bosco 2018 is a Supertuscan red wine from the Tenuta Prima Petra winery located in Riparbella in coastal Tuscany. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this wine delivers the richness, structure and depth one would expect from a Tuscan Bordeaux blend but adds a unique element of freshness which comes from coastal terroir of Riparbella, which boasts the most-elevated vineyards on the Tuscan coast. "Plum, dried cherry, spice box, smoked meat and black olive on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained, sleek tannins. - The 2018 Rosso Prima Pietra Toscana wafts up layer after layer of mineral-tinged blackberry and violets, while evolving further with hints of charred wood and animal musk. It’s silky and elegant on the palate, contrasted by tart black/blue fruit. This then takes a turn toward the savory side with wild herbs and an almost-salty character, while rounded tannins mount toward the close. This dark and brooding blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot from the Tuscan coast is a highly enjoyable effort.
