The Peter Michael Clos du Ciel Pinot Noir 2012 is a single-vineyard red wine produced by Peter Michael Winery, situated in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of Sonoma County, California. This Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from the Clos du Ciel vineyard, elevated at nearly 425m elevation, benefiting from a unique microclimate shaped by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The winemaking process utilises traditional Burgundy methods, including hand-sorting and fermentation with native yeasts. The wine presents notes of red fruit, earthiness and firm tannins, offering a structured experience suitable for extended cellaring.
- Brilliant ruby-red. High-pitched red fruit aromas are complicated by blood orange, Asian spices, tea rose and smoky minerals. Lively, sharply focused raspberry and floral pastille flavors gain intensity with aeration and pick up a deeper cherry pit quality. Leaves suave notes of black raspberry and musky herbs behind on the spicy, impressively persistent, focused finish, which barely hints at tannins.

Peter Michael

Peter Michael

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
