Founded in 1842, Niepoort is a family-owned business now run by the fifth-generation winemaker Dirk Niepoort. The company is well-known for its excellent Ports and table wines, produced in the Douro Valley. The 2018 Museu dos Lagares is made predominantly from Touriga Nacional, with a blend of other native grape varieties. The name ‘Museu dos Lagares’ refers to the traditional wine presses [lagares] used in the Douro region, and the wine pays homage to the winemaking heritage of the area. The wine is typically aged in French oak barrels for about 12-18 months, which adds complexity and a well-rounded character to the final product. Expect notes of ripe red fruits, such as plums and cherries, alongside floral and herbal elements.
