Mouton Rothschild 1934

HED27011 75cl 13.5%
Mouton Rothschild 1934 is a fully mature, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. The prestigious Château Mouton Rothschild estate is home to the world-renowned First Growth of the same name. Established in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, the château pioneered the concept of estate bottling in the 1920s. This ultra-rare bottling is from the 1934 vintage. "It seems crazy that a wine from 1934 can still be this good. The vintage saw a drought in the summer, and just enough rain in September to ensure a relatively abundant yield. The colour here has faded to a soft ruby, and the sweetness of the fruit is clear on the palate, suggesting a move into tertiary territory. Notes of undergrowth, dried herbs, tobacco, sage and cold ash come back around in wave after wave. It`s gentle, effortless and an utter testament to how Lafite ages, demonstrating life and energy without pushing itself forward. A wine with real distinction." Decanter, 2018

Chateau Mouton Rothschild

Chateau Mouton Rothschild

The prestigious Château Mouton Rothschild estate is home to the world-renowned First Growth of the same name, in addition to a second red wine, Petit Mouton and a white wine, made in smaller quantities, known as L'Aile d'Argent. Established in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, the Château pioneered the idea of bottling their own wine in the 1920s while other properties were still selling and exporting in barrel. A Second Growth until 1972, the winery was officially elevated to the high rank of Bordeaux classification in 1973 after much campaigning by the famous Baron Philippe de Rothschild.

Cabernet Sauvignon that takes pride of place in the wines of Mouton Rothschild, with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon always predominates in the Mouton red, giving the wine its rich tannins, wealth of aroma, flavour and superb ageing capacity. Meanwhile Merlot, an inseparable companion, brings suppleness, roundness and exceptional length.
