James E. Pepper 1776 Rye is an American rye whiskey that pays homage to the brand`s historic roots. The name "1776" is a nod to the year when the distillery was founded by Elijah Pepper, and the whiskey recipe has been in the family for generations. The brand was later revived by Amir Peay, who aimed to honour the legacy of James E. Pepper, the third-generation distiller. This rye whiskey is made from a mash bill containing a high percentage of rye (typically around 90%), along with a small percentage of malted barley. It is aged in new charred American oak barrels, which imparts rich and spicy flavours to the whiskey. It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as a base for classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
