2005 saw the launch of Cuvée Hemera which replaced Cuvée des Enchanteleurs as a limited release from Henriot only produced in the very best vintages. It is a 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from six Grands Crus. Chouilly, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for Chardonay; and Verzy, Verzenay and Mailly for Pinot Noir. Aged for 12 years on lees this is fresh, floral and perfectly balanced.
The 2005 Brut Cuvée Hemera is a very pretty wine, especially within the context of the year. Warm toasty notes, candied lemon, vanillin, baked apple and a touch of oak sweetness are fused together. Racy and enveloping, the 2005 will drink well for at least another handful of years. Given the challenges of the year, I would not push my luck with cellaring the 2005 for too long. Today, though, it is quite rewarding. - Antonio Galloni
