The Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 1995 is a highly regarded red Bordeaux wine from the Pauillac appellation. It represents a classic expression of its esteemed Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru Classé) status from a very good vintage. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a long and rich history, with roots tracing back to the 16th century. The `Grand-Puy` part of the name refers to the `large hill` or elevated gravel outcrops where the vineyards are located, a key aspect of its terroir. The "Lacoste" refers to the family who owned the property for much of the 18th and 19th centuries. Since 1978, the estate has been owned by the Borie family, with François-Xavier Borie taking charge.
Red
Bordeaux, France
Dark ruby-red. Ripe, expressive nose combines cassis, roasted plum and coconut. Supple, very concentrated and large-scaled; actually rather backward today even if the terrific ripeness is clear to see. Quintessential firm Pauillac backbone is covered by flesh. Will rely more on its tongue-dusting tannins than its acidity to age in bottle. This wine firmed up noticeably during its second year in barrel.
