Based in the commune of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine de la Romanée Conti is undoubtedly the most prestigious wine estate in Burgundy, achieving an almost-mythical status. DRC – as it is frequently called – is co-owned by the de Villaine and Leroy families and produces only grand cru wines. The vines are farmed biodynamically, yields are kept low by methodical pruning and harvesting is typically very late. Their Échezeaux cuvée comes from a 4.67-hectare vineyard holding, where the vines’ average age is 34 years old. This particular release is from the 2000 vintage, available here in a rare magnum bottle. The wine is a charming expression of its terroir, delicately spicy and sweet, brimming with strawberries, griotte cherries and notes of truffles.
