Domaine Dujac Échezeaux 2002 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru of Échezeaux in the Côte de Nuits. Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac is a highly regarded Burgundy producer based in Morey-Saint-Denis. The estate has a reputation for producing world class wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, ranging from entry-level Bourgognes to complex, age-worthy Grands Crus such as this. "Intense, extremely expressive spicy red fruit aromas lead to wonderfully sappy, mouth coatingly rich flavors blessed with outstanding density and unusually silky tannins plus a certain seductive quality to the subtly complex and persistent finish. This is more refined than it normally is at this early stage of its development and is extremely promising." Burghound, 2004
- Good red. Musky aroma of underbrush, with fruit currently suppressed. Sweet but closed, with more funky underbrush and herbs than fruit showing. Diana Snowden says this wine received an extra racking, with the lees added back to the barrel not long before the bottling. I tasted this from a 375 ml. bottle, so it's quite possible the regular bottles are less advanced.

Domaine Dujac

Domaine Dujac

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
