Durfort Vivens 2016 is a 2ème Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux from the Margaux appellation, crafted by the Lurton family, renowned for their commitment to excellence since 1961. Château Durfort-Vivens has been certified biodynamic since 2016. This red blend features Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, cultivated on gravel soils that contribute to its character. Notable for its mature structure, the wine exhibits balanced fruit, fine tannins, and complexities of leather and cigar smoke. It offers a study in elegance, making it a fitting choice for connoisseurs of Left Bank Bordeaux.
The 2016 Dufort-Vivens has a curious nose. I find this harder to work out than the 2015, and it is only after ten minutes in the glass that it settles down to reveal black cherries, raspberry coulis, iodine and violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy opening, quite dense and more powerful than the 2015, although I do not find it has the same finesse on the finish. I was reserved in my judgment in barrel and remain that way regarding this vintage. Tasted at the château.
