Cote Rotie La Turque Guigal 1989
Founded in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley and is often seen as a benchmark for quality Côte-Rôtie. The top three wines from Guigal are known affectionately in some circles as the La La’s, which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Turque debuted in 1985 and is made from Syrah and Viognier (around 7%) from a single hectare of vines on the Côte Brune. Often with even greater density and tannin than its counterparts, La Turque is known for its richness and power. The 1989 release certainly lives up to that reputation with incredibly opulent black fruits and heady notes of woodsmoke, liquorice and olive tapenade.
