Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde Guigal 1983

HED97948 75cl
Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde 1983 is a mature-vintage Syrah red wine from the Côte-Rôtie appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. A blend of 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier, this signature Guigal Syrah is typically aged for 36 months of oak barrels (50% new) before bottling. While renowned for its single-vineyard bottlings, La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque, Guigal has here assembled a blend of fruit from the two growing areas of the appellation, the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde. "Meaty, violets, blackberry jam, impeccable freshness and subtle, fragrant coffee character. Splendid silkiness. Lovely bright, juicy fruit with a long, savoury, mushroom finish." Richard Hemming MW, 2016

E. Guigal

E. Guigal

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the ‘La-Las’, which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine’s top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal’s Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l’Hospice (the source of one of Guigal’s top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
