Pousse d`Or Corton Clos du Roi 2009 is a full-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Grand Cru climat of Clos du Roi in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine de La Pousse d`Or is a historic estate which can be traced back to the Dukes of Burgundy and the year 1100. In 1997, the property was acquired Patrick Landanger, who has invested considerable resources both in the vineyards and cellar. This particular release comes from Le Clos du Roi, a prestigious walled vineyard of the Corton Grand Cru appellation. "As is typically the case, this is earthier and much more sauvage than the Bressandes though it retains good freshness and pinot noir character. The nose speaks primarily of plum and floral aromas that are in keeping with the sappy, rich, powerful and broad-shouldered flavours that drench the palate with dry extract on the very firmly structured and hugely long finish. This should be a great wine in time." Burghound, 2011
Good bright, dark red. Rather wild aromas of black fruits, licorice, fresh herbs and earth; smells powerful! Sappy, sweet and soil-driven, with black cherry, mineral and crushed stone flavors complicated by leather and earth notes. Powerful tannins and an impression of tightly coiled energy rare for a 2009 call for extended cellaring. This powerfully structured wine is even less approachable now than it was a year ago from the barrel. Ripe fruit carries through to the very long finish. Terrific potential here.
