Clos du Marquis 2001 presents an intriguing profile characteristic of the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. This vintage displays a deep ruby colour, indicative of its age, and offers a complex nose featuring blackcurrant with earthy undertones and a hint of spice. The palate reveals a structured yet approachable texture, with layers of dark fruit balanced by subtle oak and savoury notes. Produced by Domaine Léoville Las Cases, this wine is known as the second label of the esteemed Château Léoville Las Cases, a property renowned for its consistent quality and craftsmanship in Bordeaux.
Bright, full ruby-red. Ripe aromas of blackberry, kirsch, cedar and sexy oak. Rich, broad and pliant, with chewy, vibrant flavors of black fruits and licorice. This boasts excellent texture and depth for a second wine. Finishes with substantial dusty, fine tannins and excellent length. A serious and full vintage for Clos du Marquis, but less forbidding now that it's in bottle than a sample I tried from barrel last spring.
