Founded in 1987, Bodegas Roda is one of the newest wineries in Rioja but has rapidly established itself as a meticulous producer of incredibly high-quality Tempranillo and very much represents the modern side of the region, favouring a short maturation time versus more traditional extended barrel ageing. Cirsion was conceived in 1995 as it was discovered that some vines produced grapes of such distinctive fruit and tannin quality that they merited a separate bottling. The 1999 is a cracking release with wonderful layers of black and red fruits, exotic spices, truffle, tobacco and earth. Though endowed with ample density, it is silky smooth and shows seamless integration.
