Chichibu The First (Bottled 2011) 2008
Amazingly, this whisky was just three years of age when bottled, which bodes very well for older botlings yet to come from Chichibu. Cereal, leather, citrus oil and honey jump out of the glass initially. The palate is sweet, confected fruit with a touch of toffee and freshly ground malt. A medium finish brings yet more tasty grain and a hint of preserved lemon. A bold opening statement from Chichibu which set the stage for dozens of superb drams released over the years that followed.

Chichibu Distillery is a Japanese whisky distillery located in the small town of Chichibu, northwest of Tokyo. Established in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, it is a relatively young distillery in the world of whisky-making, but has quickly gained a reputation for producing some of the finest single malt whiskies in Japan. Chichibu's whisky-making process is steeped in tradition and attention to detail. The distillery sources only the highest quality malted barley from around the world, and uses a combination of pot stills and column stills to distill the whisky.
