Trapet Chambertin 2008 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Le Chambertin in the Gevrey-Chambertin commune of the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Trapet is a family-owned winery in Burgundy that has been producing wine since 1870. The domaine`s Chambertin is sourced from a 2ha parcel running from top to bottom of the Grand Cru slope. "The 2008 Trapet Chambertin is a magical bottle of wine. The celestial bouquet soars from the glass in a mélange of red and black cherries, plums, grilled meat, coffee bean, woodsmoke, a touch of fresh herbs and a profound base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very intensely flavoured, with great focus and length, a rock solid core of pure fruit and a very long, ripely tannic and utterly seamless finish. A profound Chambertin." John Gilman, 2009
The 2008 Chambertin Grand Cru, which was picked from 26 September and would have contained around 20% whole bunch, has a comparatively straightforward bouquet compared to the 2020s. Wild strawberry and raspberry aromas, pastille-like with peppermint aromas emerging reluctantly with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a little rigid in style, maybe just missing a little flesh in the middle and attenuating on the finish. - Neil Martin
