Chambertin Armand Rousseau 2020

HED93504 75cl 13.5%
Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Armand Rousseau unquestionably sits amongst the greats of Burgundy with a portfolio of wines from some of the most revered vineyards in the region. Cyrielle Rousseau is now assuming more control of day-to-day operations and is maintaining the incredible quality standards of her predecessors. The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru is a stunning wine, with a deep, concentrated core of black fruits, earth, and spice. The tannins are present but well-integrated, and the wine has a long, lingering finish. This is a wine that will need time to fully develop, but it has the potential to age for decades.
The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru has a touch of reduction but that soon dissipated to reveal intense black and red fruit, half and half really, crushed rock (sea cave), a very subtle marine influence the develops with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, taut and fresh, closing in a little on the finish although I think that is due to the coolness creeping in within the cellar. This is already imbued with a tantalizing sense of magnificence - but would you expect anything less? - Neil Martin - The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru is a little oakier on the nose than its peers, though it remains proportionate to the fruit. There's a little more concentration, maybe slightly later-picked, and then I notice a touch of TCA. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a keen line of acidity, a structure and more austere Chambertin, even though there is plenty of fruit. Just a bit of dryness on the finish. I think the scintilla of TCA just shaves this Chambertin, and an untainted bottle would shine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
