Criolla Chica – also known as Mission in California – was one of the first varieties to be introduced to South America in the16th century. More recently, this historical grape has been reinvented by contemporary winemakers, including Sebastian Zuccardi. This juicy Criolla, from 80-year-old organically farmed vines in Calingasta, is bursting with ripe summer berries, along with rose petal, orange peel and touches of cooked plum. A bright acidity and surprisingly firm tannins make for a wine that demands a new appreciation.
