Brunello di Montalcino Altero Poggio Antico 2004 is a notable mature Sngiovese from one of Tuscany`s most-lauded modern producers. This vintage was aged for a minimum of 36 months in oak barrels before bottling. The result is a structured wine with pronounced tannins and a balanced acidity. Aromas of cherry, leather and subtle spice reflect the prized terroir of Montalcino.
The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Altero was promising when it was young, but the oak ultimately was too much for the wine's mid-weight structure. The silkiness that was present when the wine was young has given way to a powerful, intense wine. Sadly, the oak has pretty much consumed much of the fruit here.
