Château Branon 2008 is a full-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the Pessac-Léognan region of Bordeaux. The small, 18th-century property of Château Branon is situated between Château Haut-Bailly and Château Malartic-Lagraviere in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The 2008 from the property is an assemblage of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. "A sleeper of the vintage, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2008 Branon displays chocolatey, earthy undertones intermixed with black currants and Asian plum sauce. Medium to full-bodied, rich, impressively endowed, supple and evolved, it can be drunk over the next 10-12 years." Robert Parker, 2009
The 2008 Branon has a lifted bouquet with red cherries, bilberry and loganberry fruit, a touch of incense and iris emerging to lend it a Margaux-like personality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite grippy tannin, vivid red berry fruit laced with pencil lead. It has moderate depth with a fresh, slightly saline finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting. - Neil Martin
