Bilancia Syrah 2021 hails from two esteemed vineyards in Roys Hill, Hawke`s Bay. La Collina and Trelinnoe. The grapes were carefully harvested, then fermented in open-top vessels before being pressed to dryness. The wine was matured in a combination of older French oak barriques and stainless steel tanks. This blend features a prominent expression of dark fruits, intermingled with hints of spice characteristic of Hawke`s Bay. Bilancia was founded by winemaker Warren Gibson and applies meticulous vineyard practices to produce terroir-driven wines both for immediate consumption or further ageing.
The 2021 Syrah is a delicately handled, elegant and fruit-filled expression of this variety. It is youthful and bright with pure fruit. Handled more like a Pinot Noir with no new oak, this allows its delightful fragrance to blossom. It has many flavors, from blackcurrant pastilles, strawberries, violets and ripe pepper to exotic spices. It is a lighter-bodied example with a lightness of touch that eases its way across the palate. The 2021 is a fine, drawn-out wine with gentle, gravelly tannins.
