Established in 1999 by the Boisset family, Domaine de la Vougeraie is biodynamic wine estate comprising some of the most prestigious and historical vineyards in Burgundy. With nearly 40 hectares and over 30 different appellations – including six Grand Crus – Domaine de la Vougeraie is undoubtedly one of the leading producers in the region. This release comes from Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, where Vougeraie owns a 0.46-hectare plot with vines planted in 1977. Burgundy 2020 was a successful vintage across the board and the whites are particularly nuanced, with a citric crunch.
The 2020 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is the only one of three tasted that shows some reduction on the nose, lanolin and candle wax scents occluding the fruit. The palate is viscous on the entry. This is a "sunny" and slightly honeyed wine that does not have the tension of precision of its peers. It tapers in towards the finish when you are expecting that peacock`s tail. I am unsure how representative this bottle is, and it becomes slightly oxidative on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. - Neil Martin

Domaine de la Vougeraie

Domaine de la Vougeraie

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
