Aalto has only existed since 1999, however, with former Vega Sicilia winemaker at the helm, the relatively young winery has gone from strength to strength. Aalto PS is the winery’s special cuvée, where the last two letters stand for Pagos Seleccionados – which translates to ‘plot selection’. The wine is made with 100% Tempranillo grapes from very old vines, grown in selected plots in La Horra and La Aguilera. Aged for 21 months in new French oak barrels, the wine is beautifully dense, with enveloping tannins and nuanced texture.
