The Springbank Millennium Collection

Six of Springbank's rarest single malts, highly sought-after by collectors and drinkers alike. 

Origins

 

The Springbank Millennium Collection was launched at the end of the 1990s with the final bottling taking place in March 2001. The series contains six age statement single malts, released by the distillery from youngest to oldest - 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 year old, each presented in a clear glass bottle with gold foil, housed in a screen printed wooden presentation case. The labels feature the classic Springbank "S".

The Collection has steadily increased in value over the years as the quality of the bottlings recognised by collectors and stocks diminished. Demand for Springbank remains hugely ahead of supply and with pressure on production at an all-time high, it's unlikely we'll see a collection with the breadth of age statements released in the near future.

A 25-year-old single malt from Springbank, this expression, released in 1998, marked the launch of the Springbank Millennium collection. The nose unfolds with hints of sea air, moss, fern, and metallic undertones. A well-balanced interplay of sprinkled grape sugar and pipe tobacco contributes to a sweet and salty character. On the palate, the initial notes showcase a layer of honey, with a slightly oily texture. Notes of toffee, dark chocolate, molasses and syrupy elements add depth to the dram. Bottled at 46% ABV, the whisky is devoid of artificial colouring and undergoes no chill filtration.

A 30-year-old expression of Springbank was introduced as part of the distillery`s Millennium Collection. The initial impression on the nose is distinctly earthy and meaty, evoking the sense that it has been steeped in wood. A medley of spices, a touch of caramel, toffee, and subsequently, butter and raisins contribute to the aromatic complexity. On the palate, notes of sweet peat harmonize with spice flavours. Gradually, nuances of dark honey, treacle, and a hint of orange emerge.

Distilled at Springbank in Campbeltown, this single malt forms part of the Millennium Collection, having matured for an impressive 35 years before reaching a bottling strength of 46% ABV. The nose presents a fusion of classic sherry notes and tropical fruits, featuring elements of dates, figs, chocolate brownie, and baking spices. On the palate, the full-bodied character unfolds, offering unripe mango and pineapple, a hint of lime juice, wild strawberries, milk chocolate with caramel, all wrapped in a layer of velvety oak.

This exquisite 40-year-old expression of Springbank single malt was released as part of the distilleries famous Millennium Collection. The nose is bursting with notes of dried fruits and cake-like aromas. The old wood presence is notable, but perfectly integrated, even with a subtle touch of mustiness. The second-oldest release in Springbank`s Millennium Collection series, this remarkable whisky matured for 45 years before being bottled at a natural cask strength of 40.1% ABV. The nose reveals white fruits such as pear, apple, and subtle hints of melon, accompanied by honeycomb and beeswax. The palate offers a myriad of flavours, including sweet butterscotch, honey, a touch of marzipan, clotted cream, Turkish Delight, a hint of milk chocolate, and sweet yellow plum.
