High Coast
Stylish Scandinavian Single Malt
Named after the Höga Kasten region of northern Sweden in which it is located, High Coast is one of the most northerly whisky distilleries in the world. The distillery’s extreme northerly location and natural surroundings are crucial to the character of the whiskies it produces.
Winter-summer temperatures in this part of Sweden differ by around 70 degrees, which causes the barrels in which High Coast ages its whiskies to frequently expand and contract, accelerating parts of the maturation process and contributing to their unique flavour development. High Coast also has access to unusually soft waters from Bålsjön, a pristine spring lake close to the distillery, which is filtered through sand and carbon before use in the distillation process.
Taking inspiration from Islay whisky (High Coast’s stills are similar to Kilchomans in both shape and size) and Japan (like many Japanese distilleries, they use a clear wort which deliver more fruity flavours in new make), High Coast produces heavily peated and unpeated styles of whisky which have very quickly earned them a loyal following among the whisky aficionados of the world.
