Meursault Perrières
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Of the headily rich and complex white wines produced in the Côte d’Or village of Meursault, those of the Premier Cru of Les Perrières rank the highest – the best of them challenging the supremacy of Puligny-Montrachet’s own revered Premiers Crus.
The fine, ageworthy Chardonnays of Meursault Perrières combine floral aromatics, honeyed richness and elegant minerality, all in seamless detail. This somewhat fragmented vineyard area – comprising Perrières Dessus, Aux Perrières and Perrières Dessous – is generally characterised by thin, rocky soil with a high percentage of limestone. This is thought to account for the very fine mineral core of Meursault Perrières Chardonnay – as evidenced in the bottlings of illustrious producers such as Coche-Dury, Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Roulot and Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey.
