Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses

Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France

The elegantly named Les Amoreuses – ‘the lovers’ – is the perhaps most celebrated 1er Cru in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. This small climat of 4.5ha lies at the southern end of Chambolle-Musigny, just below the Grand Cru of Musigny – a vineyard site with which it is frequently contrasted.

With more limestone soil than is typical in the region, Les Amoureuses produces fine, filigree Pinots; while they might not be able to match density and concentration of Musigny, their perfumed sensuality has nevertheless enchanted many a Burgundy aficionado.

The largest landowner in Les Amoureuses is Domaine Robert Groffier, however many leading producers own plots within the cru – Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, Lucien Le Moine, Joseph Drouhin and Domaine Vincent Girardin among them.
