Chablis Grand Cru Bougros
Chablis, Burgundy, France
Chablis Grand Cru Bougros is a well-regarded Chablis Grand Cru vineyard located on the lower section of the Grand Cru slope on the right bank of the Serein river. Bougros has a reputation for being the junior of the seven Chablis Grands Crus (possibly because of the vineyard’s location, set off to one corner on the western edge of the Grand Cru slope), but this reputation does not tell the whole story. In fact, good vintages from the best producers offer profoundly good value for anyone looking for rich, mineral-streaked Chardonnays with excellent ageing potential.
The terroir of Bougros is defined primarily by its lower slope geology (more clay, deeper soil), proximity to the river and steep southerly exposition. The latter aspects mean higher levels of sun radiation, while all factors combined produce rounder wines with more palate weight. That said, Bougros Chardonnays may still need a decade to fully express themselves.
