Bruichladdich distillery

Bruichladdich `Rhinns` Cask Offer

About the distillery

Bruichladdich Distillery, founded in 1881 on the shores of Loch Indaal on Islay, is known for its progressive approach to whisky making. Revived in 2001 after a period of closure, the distillery has become a beacon of transparency, terroir, and traditional craftsmanship. All of its whiskies are non-chill filtered, free from artificial colouring, and often bottled at natural strength, with a strong emphasis on traceability and the provenance of barley — much of which is grown on Islay itself.

The distillery famously produces a number distinct spirit styles — unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte, and ultra-peated Octomore — offering a diverse view of Islay character, from elegant and floral to intensely smoky. Bruichladdich is not only a pioneer of contemporary Scotch whisky but also a proud advocate for sustainability, community, and authenticity, setting itself apart as a modern classic in the world of single malt.

£6,950.00
Peated to 20ppm, Rhinns sits between the unpeated signature of classic Bruichladdich and the heavier style of Port Charlotte, offering a more nuanced and balanced expression of Islay’s famed smoke. It is rarely released outside the distillery, and almost never seen as new make or cask-fill spirit.

Filled at an impressively high 68.7% ABV, this cask has been laid down in a first fill bourbon barrel sourced directly from Bardstown Bourbon Company, one of the most technologically advanced and acclaimed distilleries in Kentucky. Known for its rich and complex high-rye bourbons, Bardstown barrels are prized for their ability to impart sweet oak, vanilla bean, coconut husk, and subtle toasted spice — a perfect complement to Islay peat.

As the whisky develops, we expect this cask to evolve beautifully, layering charred oak and butterscotch over sweet orchard fruits and iodine smoke, with time coaxing out hints of sea salt, lemon peel, warm clove, and cigar ash. With its robust ABV, the spirit is set to age gracefully, offering great flexibility for extended maturation or an earlier bottling with intense flavour concentration.

This 200-litre first fill Bouborn barrel was filled in March 2025. Included in the price is three years professional storage and insurance at Braeside Bond.
