Dominio de Pingus
Spanish terroir-focused cult wine.
Thanks to the dedicated work of Danish, Bordeaux-trained oenologist Peter Sisseck, Dominio de Pingus has become one of the great names in terroir-focused Spanish wine. Based in Quintanilla de Onésimo in Ribera del Duero, the domain was established in 1995. It has practised organic viticulture from the outset and has farmed biodynamically since 2000.
A highly sought-after cult wine, Pingus is the estate’s flagship bottling, produced from 100% old-vine Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from three vineyard parcels in the village of La Horra. Made from extremely low-yielding bush vines and aged in 100% new French oak barrels, this is a wine with unique concentration, balance and length. Flor de Pingus is the second wine of the estate, also produced from 100% old-vine Tinto Fino.
Sisseck’s production of fewer than 500 cases for Pingus dictates that demand always outweighs supply, with pricing that reflects this; but these wines are a landmark in Spanish wine, and one of the high symbols of fine wine from Ribero del Duero.
