Local botanist Dr Stephen Bungard helped hand-pick only the best juniper on the island. The perfect balance of flavours was created by distilling the juniper along with a select few botanicals in the distillery`s copper malt spirit still, whilst vapour infusing the rest in a copper gin basket to retain vibrancy. The result. a refreshing, zesty dry gin with a lasting aftertaste that encapsulates Raasay’s style, character and impressive geological variety.
The Isle of Raasay Distillery is the first legal distillery on Raasay - an island between the Isle of Skye and the west of Scotland - that opened its doors in 2017. R-02 is the small-batch, signature Isle of Raasay single malt.
It was made with a blend of peated and unpeated spirit that has been matured separately in first-fill Rye whiskey, fresh Chinkapin oak and first fill Bordeaux red wine casks.
A special edition from Isle of Raasay distilled in late 2022. Initially aged in Woodford Reserve rye whisky casks before being moved to a combination of PX and Oloroso Sherry barrels, this lightly peated dram is bursting with notes of toasted nuts, caramel, baking spice and dried fruits.
Medium bodied with a textured mouthfeel, expect lingering notes of wood smoke and sea spray on the finish. Another superb bottling from a relative newcomer to the world of fine single malt Scotch.
