American Corn Whiskey
Corn whiskey is defined as a distilled spirit made from at least 80% corn. These whiskies hark back to the earliest days of modern American distilling when farmers would distil excess some of their excess corn crop into a crude spirit. In those days it was usually drunk unaged while more modern examples often spend some time ageing in oak barrels in a similar fashion to Straight Bourbon and Rye. These whiskies tend to be up-front and uncomplicated with notes of butterscotch, toffee, popcorn and butter usually predominating.
