Chambolle Musigny Les Hauts Doix Robert Groffier 2005

Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts Doix 2005 is a mature Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Hauts Doix in the Chambolle commune of the Côte de Nuits. The oft-overlooked Les Hauts Doix is a small vineyard site that wraps around a section of the prized Chambolle Premier Cru of Les Amoureuses and typically produces elegant, restrained Pinot Noirs with haunting Chambolle perfume. "The 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts Doix offers iris, musky narcissus florality, vanilla, raspberry and rhubarb in the nose, a silky palate with hints of smoke and game, and a juicy, sappy, bright, finish. Serge Groffier says he doesn’t think this site can take more than a third of new wood, which has certainly faded into the background. A few years will tell what sort of additional complexity this will add, but its combination of textural richness, clarity and kinetic vibrancy is already impressive." Wine Advocate, 2007
