House of Hazelwood - The 2024 Collection
The third curation of House of Hazelwood aged, and rare Scotch Whisky pays homage to the adventurous spirit of the Gordon family. With flavours inspired by far-flung destinations, it promises to take the palates of whisky drinkers to rarely traveled plains.
The 2024 Collection represents eight releases - four in the Charles Gordon Collection and four in the Legacy Collection. The latter represents a selection of highlights from the House of Hazelwood's whisky reserves while the former are some of the oldest and rarest casks in the Gordon family's private collection.
The Charles Gordon Collection
A legend within the Scotch whisky community, Charles Gordon was fundamental in managing some of the earliest stock laid down for the House of Hazelwood collection.
This eponymous collection of rare and old Scotch whiskies represents some of the most remarkable stock held within the inventory.
The nose is met with a brush of light lavender, before transitioning into a herbaceous quality, resonant of a bountiful earthy autumn harvest. On the palate, more herbaceous qualities become apparent, bringing with it a sense of freshly cut grass, a cooling breeze of mint, topped with perfumed parma violets and orchard fruits.

The nose opens with the enticing invitation of toasted coconut, evolving to a buttery, yet mentholic quality. From there, the aromas develop, offering plains of leather and parchment paper - a nod to time spent slumbering in cask. The rancio qualities continue on the palate, offering an antique character, before a creamy crescendo, offered hand in hand with a lasting tart tang.

With such a namesake, you could be forgiven for believing this whisky is a gentle character. But, looks can be deceiving with a nose that is big, bold and deeply rich in blackberries, raspberries and other dark fruits, swiftly moving into a sugary strawberry jam sweetness.

Aromas of nostalgia are immediately apparent within this Single Grain, with a sense of camping stove burners and wax jackets. The oiliness is complimented by the presence of Muscovado sugar.? The palate carries this sugar sweetness, now developing into stewed rhubarb and gooseberries - a fresh and tart fruit coulis.

House of Hazelwood's Legacy Collection showcases some of the brightest highlights of the inventory, comprising whiskies of exceptional character and provenance. The collection includes releases that are the first of their kind, the last of their line, those that capture the spirit of an era and those that offer insights into the inner workings of the Scotch whisky community.
The nose is elegantly light, offering a gentle heathered sweetness, offset by hints of moss grown on the tops of the rolling Scottish hills, topped generously with a dusting of sawdust.? A sensation of sweetness continues on the palate, evolving into the syrupy delight of barley sugar. Orchard fruits become readily apparent, with apple and pear tart coming to the forefront.

Bonfires burn and smoulder on the nose of this Islay malt. The phenolic, charcoal quality is softened by the presence of yuzu citrus, transforming creosote into bacon in a puff of smoke.? The smoke character develops on the palate, offering up notes of cigar smoke and lightly singed tree bark. Chew your way through the finish on fresh tobacco leaves.

The nose conjures aromas found within bazaars and souks - vibrantly aromatic with notes of dried herbs and aniseed.? The palate moves into notes of freshly-made leather, transported straight from the tanneries. The earthy smell is then tempered by the presence of astringent, yet, sweet liquorice root.

A clear descendant of American oak, the nose offers up rich buttery popcorn, drizzled in golden syrup, before maturing into green olive vines. ? The palate presents a creamy mouthfeel, sweetly candied, reminiscent of rainbow drops or candy corn. A clear wood influence makes itself known, with bursts of fresh oak readily apparent, topped with recently carved pencil shavings.
