Littlemill

A Ghostly Lowlander

Littlemill is rumoured to be built on one of the oldest distilling sites in Europe, with suggestions that spirit might have been produced there as long ago as the 14th century.

Littlemill is rumoured to be built on one of the oldest distilling sites in Europe, with suggestions that spirit might have been produced there as long ago as the 14th century. The distillery as we recognise it today was founded in 1772 by George Buchanan and was operated by various owners with some periods of closure until it finally stopped making whisky for good in 1994. During its life, Littlemill produced whisky in the traditional Lowland style, triple distilling its spirit, while also experimenting with double distillation and both peated and non-peated expressions.

A number of post-closure official editions are available alongside a selection of independent bottlings from the likes of Hunter Laing and Hart Brothers.
