Lakes Distillery
New Wave English Distillers
The Lakes Distillery was founded by Paul Currie (also the founder of the Isle of Arran Distillery in Lochranza, Scotland) in 2011, opening its doors to the public in the idyllic lakes village of Bassenthwaite in 2014.
Whisky-making is fully overseen and managed by Dhavall Gandhi, who combines extensive studies of traditional single malt whisky production with an experimental instinct. Lakes Distillery single malts are matured mostly in ex-Sherry casks of 500l and 250l capacity, made from both American and French oak, and flavoured with different styles of Sherry, from PX and cream to oloroso and fino.
The single malt range includes the Whiskymaker’s Reserve (Reserve No.1 was the first ever single malt whisky ever made in the Lake District) and Quatrefoil Collection X. Meanwhile the The Whiskymaker's Editions permits experimentation with ageing and finishing in different vessels – whether ex-Sherry, Port, red wine or even orange wine casks.
The Lake Distillery also produces a selection of artisan gins and vodka, which are distilled using traditional copper pots, British wheat and water from the Lake District National Park.
