One of three working distilleries in Campeltown, Glengyle was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell. The distillery was closed in 1925 and was only relaunched as recently as 2004, as the home of Kilkerran Single Malt.

The first release of Kilkerran Single Malt Whisky, in 2007, was a three-year-old. From 2009, the distillery released an annual Kilkerran Work in Progress, each batch being one year older than the previous, until the Kilkerran 12-year-old was released as the company’s flagship malt in 2016. This peated style of whisky is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. In addition, Kilkerran produces an eight-year-old cask-strength and, most recently, a 16-year-old expression.
