Caol Ila Cask Offer
About the Distillery
Caol Ila Distillery, founded in 1846, is perched above the Sound of Islay, offering dramatic views across to the Isle of Jura. As the largest of the Islay distilleries by capacity, Caol Ila plays a vital role both in single malt production and as a key component in many of Diageo’s blends. The distillery produces a lightly peated, maritime-influenced whisky that is prized for its balance of smoke, citrus, and coastal salinity.
While deeply rooted in tradition, Caol Ila underwent a significant transformation in recent years with the completion of its newly redeveloped visitor centre, part of Diageo’s large scale investment in Scotch whisky tourism. The refurbishment blends modern design with historic architecture and opens up previously unseen aspects of distillery life. As a result, Caol Ila now stands as one of the most visually striking and accessible gateways to Islay whisky.
The offer
We’re delighted to offer four casks of Caol Ila new make, filled into refill hogsheads in October 2024.
The peated spirit produced at Caol Ila is celebrated for its elegant, coastal style — delivering gentle smoke layered with briny salinity, lemon zest, and subtle herbal notes. When filled into refill hogsheads, as in this 2024 distillation, the influence of the oak is more restrained, allowing the distillery character to shine. Expect a beautifully balanced maturation, with the smoke integrating gracefully over time while preserving the distillate’s hallmark clarity, minerality, and soft maritime freshness.
Included in the price is three years professional storage and insurance at Braeside Bond. Delivery orders will be issued in the name of the buyer and a storage account setup in your name.
After the initial three years, additional storage fees will apply at prevailing rates. Please note that bottling costs, duty and tax are not included in this price. Read our FAQ for more information.
All purchases are subject to Hedonism Wines' terms and conditions.
These refill hogshead casks were filled on 7th October 2024 at a robust 63.6% ABV. With an Original Litres of Alcohol (OLA) of 142.52, it offers a compelling long-term maturation potential. Expect classic Caol Ila character: clean peat smoke, coastal salinity, and a bright, citrus-driven core that will evolve beautifully over time.
